Sithonia: The Heaven of Halkidiki 

The prefecture of Halkidiki is known for its beautiful coastline and its cosmopolitan lifestyle. Is without doubt one of the most important tourist resorts of Greece. The golden beaches with crystal clear waters attract tourists from all over the world. Halkidiki is close to Thessaloniki and geographically it stands for the three peninsulas that enter the Aegean Sea. Sithonia , also known as the 2st leg, Kassandra (1nd leg) and the peninsula of Athos (3rd leg) which belongs to Agion Oros in its bigger part. The capital is Poligiros and is located in Central Halkidiki

Toroni is a small village with archaeological interest because of its small town from 8th century BC that discovered there. 

Beaches 

Nikiti 

Some of the most beautiful beaches of Sithonia are at Nikiti, which has a coastline of over 25 km. Nikiti is one of the largest towns of Sithonia and is well known for entertainment, accommodation and shopping. The old village of Nikiti is at the top of the hill, with old houses and narrow beautiful streets. 

Saint John Beach 

The beautiful and very popular beach of St. John is on the west coast of Sithonia, shortly after the village of Nikiti heading towards Neos Marmaras. The old camping today is open to the public for various activities such as water sports and concerts. 

Livrohio Beach (Trani Ammouda) 

Trani Ammouda beach has crystal clear waters and a large golden coast, stretching unusually long in compare with other beaches in Sithonia. Also known as Livrohio beach (the place that never rains), it offers peace and relaxation. Along the coast there are hotels and complexes with rooms for rental. Livrohio is next to Panagias Bay, from where you can take a boat trip to Mount Athos. 

Salonikiou Beach 

Between Sithonia and Mount Athos is the Salonikiou beach, which is appropriate for a peaceful family holiday. Nearby is the picturesque fishing village Pirgadikia. 

Vourvourou 

Perhaps the most popular beach on the east side of Sithonia is Vourvourou. The village has developed into a tourist attraction for its turquoise beaches. In the sea of Vourvourou there is a cluster of small islands with even more impressive waters, accessible only by boat. 

Kavourotripes Beach 

The most discussed destination in Sithonia is Kavourotripes (holes with crabs). A beautiful rocky beach with many small bays, hidden inside a pine forest. It is located about 20 km after Vourvourou towards to Sarti, however there are no signs in the area. Access to the beach is only by foot, through a steep forest path. 

Sarti 

The village of Sarti is a well-organized tourist destination, with restaurants, resorts, and of course crystal clear waters. It is in a key location to explore the many beaches of southeast and southwest Sithonia coastline. 

Religious monuments 

Vatopedi 

Near the village of Vatopedi is the Spiritual Center of the Annunciation Monastery and the Patriarchal Monastery, dedicated to the Annunciation. In close range there is also the Monastery of Saint Arsenius. 

Sightseeing 

Traditional Settlement of Parthenon 

The mountain village of Parthenon is located at an altitude of 320 meters and is just 5 km drive from Neos Marmaras. The once abandoned village today consists of restored stone houses, traditional mansions and cobblestone streets. It has traditional guesthouses and restaurants with stunning view across the Toronean bay. 

Porto Koufo 

The cove of Porto Koufo is a natural harbor, on the southern Sithonia. It is a place where vessels can be protected from bad weather and from strong winds. The entrance to Porto Koufos is not easily visible from the sea. During the World War II it was used as a shelter for submarines. Today there is a small village in the area, a small fishing port and fish taverns.

Neos Marmaras 

The most cosmopolitan place in Sithonia is the town of Neos Marmaras and its surrounding beaches which offers a vibrant lifestyle and many entertainment options. Opposite of Neos Marmaras is the island of Kelifos with a turtle shape form, while nearby is the luxurious Porto Carras Hotel. 

Beach bars 

What makes the Sithonia peninsula a unique destination are the many secluded beaches, most of them with organized beach bars. The entertainment in Sithonia is more alternative in relation to the cosmopolitan Kassandra.
