Car Engine Washing: How Is It Done?

Most of the time, we overlook the process of washing the engine of a car, although it is extremely important for the proper functioning of the engine and the long-term health of the vehicle.

While washing the engine may seem like an easy task, it requires attention and preparation to avoid damage.

Why is it important?

The car engine is the “heart” of the vehicle and needs proper cleaning and regular maintenance. Over time, the engine accumulates dirt, oil, and dust, which, if not cleaned, can lead to overheating or other damage.

Tools and materials needed for cleaning:

  • Engine cleaning spray
  • Brushes or sponges
  • Protective covers for electrical parts (use plastic bags or special covers to protect the electrical components of the engine from moisture)
  • Protective gloves and glasses

Step-by-step instructions for washing the engine:

  1. Prepare the vehicle
Make sure the car is cold, and the engine is not hot.
  1. Cover sensitive components
It is crucial to cover the battery, wires, and the ignition switch with plastic bags or waterproof covers to prevent water from entering sensitive parts.
  1. Remove dirt
Using a dry brush, gently scrub the engine parts to remove accumulated dirt and dust, paying particular attention to areas around the engine, air filters, and hoses.
  1. Apply cleaner
Spray the engine cleaner on all engine surfaces and leave it for 5-10 minutes to let it act and loosen the dirt.
  1. Remove grease
Using a brush or a soft sponge, carefully scrub areas with heavy dirt or oil.
  1. Rinse with water
Use a water spray, preferably a hose, for rinsing the engine to achieve the best result.
  1. Drying
After rinsing, use a towel or cloth to dry the engine surfaces.
  1. Restore the battery and check
Once you are sure that the engine parts are completely dry, start the engine and check for any unusual behavior.

Cleaning should be done approximately every 6 months, depending on the use of the vehicle, for proper maintenance.
