Corfu: The Island of the Phaeacians

Corfu is located in the Ionian Sea, near the coast of Epirus. It is divided into three municipalities: Northern Corfu, with its capital in Acharavi; Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands, with its capital in Corfu town; and Southern Corfu, with its capital in Lefkimmi.

How to Get There: You can travel by air through Corfu International Airport, or take a ferry from the port of Igoumenitsa or other parts of Greece.

Archaeological Sites

Ancient Theatre of Corfu

Located in the area of Saint Jacob, the theatre had a capacity of around 5,000 spectators and was used for performances in ancient times. Today, only parts of its architecture remain.

Mausoleum of Menekrates

The Mausoleum of Menekrates, located near the area of Gaida, is a 5th-century BC tomb, possibly dedicated to the King Menekrates of Corfu. It is an impressive archaeological monument that connects to the history of the ancient city.

Archaeological Site of Garitsa

This site houses findings from the Hellenistic and Roman periods, such as aqueducts and residential remains. Many visitors say that the site gives them a sense of daily life in ancient Corfu.

Beaches

Akrotiri Drastis

Located at the northernmost point of the island, this beach is perfect for those who love exploring natural landscapes and seeking tranquility. Passing through the village of Peroulades, you reach the spot and are greeted by crystal-clear waters and impressive rock formations.

Paleokastritsa

Canal d’Amour

Whether you call it “Canal d’Amour” or simply “the Channel of Love,” the beauty and the myth surrounding this place will captivate you. According to local legend, couples who swim here will stay together forever, while singles who swim to the end of the channel will soon find love.

Kassiopi

Opposite the Albanian coast in the northwestern part of Corfu, Kassiopi offers breathtaking views and beautiful waters.

Achilleion Palace

Built in 1890 by Empress Elisabeth of Austria (known as “Sisi”), Achilleion Palace is an imposing structure that combines neoclassical and romantic elements. Old Fortress of Corfu

Byzantine Museum

Liston – Pedestrian Street of Eleftherias Avenue

One of the most famous pedestrian streets on the island, located in the heart of Corfu Town. With its Venetian-era architecture, it is home to cafes, restaurants, and bars, making it an ideal place for strolls and relaxation.

Old Town of Corfu
