Kassandra, Halkidiki: The Land of Legends & Nature 

The prefecture of Halkidiki is known for its beautiful coastline and its cosmopolitan lifestyle. Is without doubt one of the most important tourist resorts of Greece. The golden beaches with crystal clear waters attract tourists from all over the world. Halkidiki is close to Thessaloniki and geographically it stands for the three peninsulas that enter the Aegean Sea. Kassandra, also known as the 1st leg, Sithonia (2nd leg) and the peninsula of Athos (3rd leg) which belongs to Agion Oros in its bigger part. The capital is Poligiros and is located in central Halkidiki. 

How to Get? Fly to Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” (SKG) and drive to Kassandra, Halkidiki. 

Archaeological monuments 

Ancient Olynthos 

Olynthos was an ancient city of Halkidiki and is estimated that inhabited from about 5300 BC. At the archaeological site of Olynthos operates an archaeological museum which gives visitors a comprehensive insight into the history of the ancient city. 

Tower of Apostle Paul 

At Nea Fokea beach stands the tower of St Paul, constructed in the 15th century, who served to protect the monastery. According to tradition, the Apostle Paul secretly baptized there Christians, when he was in Halkidiki. 

Sanctuary of Dionysus and the Nymphs 

An area with archaeological interest near Kallithea is the temple of Dionysus and the Nymphs, part of the temple of Ammon Zeus. 

Beaches 

Agios Mamas coast 

With a length of 3.5 km the coast of Agios Mamas extends between the first and second peninsulas of Halkidiki. Due to its close driving distance from Thessaloniki (about 70 km) the area attracts a large number of swimmers, while the surrounding area is particularly known for the big fair held in early September. 

Sani beach 

A popular summer destination is the Sani beach, approximately an hour drive from Thessaloniki. It is one of the most organized beaches of Kassandra, with large hotels, a marina for yachts, shops, beach bars and organized camping. 

Fourka 

The cosmopolitan Fourka beach is on the west coast of Kassandra. In the area you can find modern settlements and also the traditional village of Fourka. 

Poseidi 

One of the best beaches in Kassandra is Poseidi. It is distinguished by its cape, one of the most tourist areas of Halkidiki. At Poseidi there are hotels, cottages, campsite and beach bars. 

Kriopigi – Polihrono – Hanioti – Pefkohori 

The east coast of Kassandra has a large variety of beaches and villages that collect most of the tourism in the area. Along the coastline there is a lush forest. Kriopigi, Polihrono, Hanioti and Pefkohori villages are well known for their vibrant life, shops, beach bars and many hotels. 

Paliouri 

Paliouri, besides its organized beach, is known for the ancient city of Theramvos. There are archaeological discoveries in the area. 

Sightseeing 

Nea Potidaia 

The settlement of Nea Potidaia is located at the narrowest point of the peninsula of Kassandra and is known for the canal that connects Thermaikos bay with Toroneos bay. The canal was built in the 1st century BC and was possibly surrounded by a castle. 

Afitos 

Afitos is a traditional village, close to Nea Fokea and Kallithea, with stone houses and cobbled streets. The village offers a stunning view to the sea. 

Entertainment 

Kallithea 

The most lively place during the summer in Kassandra and in Halkidiki in general, is Kallithea. Here the fun in non-stop 24 hours a day. From the organized beach bars, the cafe and restaurants during the day to the clubs with Greek and foreign music at night.  

Beach Bars 

The first leg of Halkidiki, Kassandra area, is known for the endless beach parties. Nice music, delicious cocktails and unlimited fun are what features every such party. Of course, there are also many quieter places to relax and enjoy your swimming sessions.
