Sustainable Mobility: A Green Way

Sustainable mobility is defined as the sustainable movement of people and goods in the urban and peri-urban environment.
With the Paris Agreement*, all European Union countries have committed to making the EU climate neutral by 2050.
To achieve this goal, the European Union has committed to reducing net greenhouse gas emissions in its entire economy by at least 55% compared to 1990 levels by 2030.
In the transport sector, greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced by 90% by 2050 compared to 1990 levels.
In the challenge of dealing with climate change, car manufacturers could not fail to participate where, through new technologies, the car fleet includes more and more environmentally friendly models.
We’ve gathered key insights into sustainable mobility trends and the response of car manufacturers and present them below.
1. **Electrification**: The transition from vehicles with internal combustion engines to electric vehicles (EVs) is one of the main axes of sustainable mobility. EVs produce zero emissions while driving and have lower running costs.
2. **Hydrogen and Fuel Cells**: Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are another technology that promises zero emissions and fast refueling, although the refueling infrastructure is still under development.
3. **Renewable energy sources**: Using renewable energy sources to charge electric vehicles helps further reduce CO2 emissions. Many countries are investing in infrastructure for the production and distribution of “green” energy.
A key element in achieving the goal of creating zero-emission vehicles is research and development, where investments in the research and development of new technologies, such as advanced batteries, lightweight materials, and efficient electric motors, attempt to reduce costs and increase performance of EVs.
In addition, automakers are adapting their production processes to incorporate circular economy principles such as material recycling and component reuse.
While, collaborations between car manufacturers and technology companies are common to develop advanced autonomous driving systems and smart mobility solutions.
Sustainable mobility is the future of transport and car manufacturers play a critical role in achieving this transition. With continuous technological advances and investments in clean technologies, the path to a more sustainable world is becoming more and more possible.

*The Paris Agreement signed in 2016 defines the framework within which the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) agreement, rules must be applied and actions implemented with the aim of reducing gas emissions in all EU countries.
