Why don’t the gears “click”?

With the passage of time and the daily use of the car, it’s normal for some systems to start malfunctioning.

In today’s article, we will analyze all the signs that indicate a malfunctioning transmission system, commonly known as the gearbox.

1st SIGN

When you shift gears, you notice that the gear lever doesn’t “engage” properly. This doesn’t necessarily happen only in first gear; it can happen in other gears as well.

2nd SIGN

The gear lever, while in any gear, returns to the “neutral” position. This is quite dangerous while driving.

3rd SIGN

A strange smell starts to appear, similar to something burning, coming from the transmission fluid. This is a sign of overheating in the transmission system.

4th SIGN

When in neutral, a noise is heard. This could be due to a lack of fluid or another serious mechanical issue.

5th SIGN

A warning light appears on the car’s dashboard.

WHAT IS THE GEARBOX?

It is the transmission system, which transfers power from the engine to the wheels of the car.

It controls the amount of torque and speed that reaches the wheels. For example, when driving on roads that require more torque, such as uphill roads, you should lower the engine revs through the transmission system.

EXTRA TIP:

When parking, always pull the handbrake first and then engage the gear.
