Patras: A Cultural Metropolis and Gateway to Western Greece

Patras is the largest city in the Peloponnese and the third largest in Greece, with a population of 167,446 inhabitants. It is the capital of Achaea, as it has two administrative seats: the Municipality of Patras and the Decentralized Administration of Peloponnese, Western Greece, and Ionian Islands.
The city has a rich history of over four millennia, and it has been inhabited since prehistoric times.

Attractions
Roman Odeon
An ancient Roman-era structure, which has been reconstructed and is now used for theatrical and musical performances. It is located to the west of the castle in the Upper Town, near the Roman stadium, and between the streets of Old Patras Germanos, Sotiariadou, Pantokratoros, and Saint George Square.
Patras Castle
Built on the ruins of the ancient acropolis, the castle was once used as a military and administrative center, with continuous repairs and additions over time.
It is worth visiting to experience the history while strolling through the beautiful gardens and enjoying the panoramic view.
Apollo Theater
The Municipal Theater “Apollo” is an emblematic landmark of Patras and is located at the heart of George Square. Known as a “precious architectural gem,” the theater is the only one in Greece that has operated continuously since its founding.
Museums
Archaeological Museum of Patras
Located at the northern entrance of the city, the museum is housed in a building constructed in 2008, designed by architect Theophanis Bobotis. The museum has three large halls for permanent exhibitions and one hall for temporary exhibitions. It also has a reception area, an amphitheater, storage spaces for artifacts, and an outdoor area for parking.
Municipal Gallery of Patras
Founded in 1988, the gallery continues to enrich its collection with many works of art. It operates in an interior space of the municipal library, aiming to develop artistic education and aesthetic training through its exhibitions.
Kostis Palamas House of Letters
The residence of the great poet Kostis Palamas is now open to the public. In 2014, it was purchased by Athanasios D. Stefanopoulos, who undertook its restoration. It now functions as a cultural center dedicated to the memory of the poet.
