Car Cabin Filter: How often should we change it?

The cabin filter is responsible for cleaning the air that enters the car. It traps dust, pollen, pollutants, and other harmful substances from the air before they reach the ventilation system and air conditioning.
This way, even drivers with allergies are not affected.
It is an important component of a car and is often overlooked during maintenance.
However, its proper function is directly related to the quality of air we breathe while driving.
How often should the filter be changed?
According to manufacturers, the filter should be replaced every 15,000 to 30,000 kilometers or at least once a year.
However, it also depends on other factors, such as:
1. Driving in urban environments. If you drive in densely populated areas with heavy traffic or in areas with high pollution, the cabin filter will clog faster.
2. Allergies or air sensitivity. Frequent replacement of the cabin filter helps reduce symptoms, as the filter removes allergens like pollen.
3. Driving in dusty or dirt-prone areas. In areas with a lot of dust, the filter clogs faster and requires more frequent replacement.
When should the filter be changed?
1. Decreased airflow
You may notice that the air coming from the car’s vents is weaker, indicating that the filter is beginning to clog.
2. Poor air quality and air conditioning system
With the windows closed, unpleasant odors such as moisture or mold may start to appear in the cabin. This is the time to change the filter.
Changing the cabin filter yourself.
1. First, locate the filter. In most cars, it is usually placed behind the passenger side glove compartment. Empty the contents and find the connections that hold it in place on the dashboard, then carefully remove it.
2. It looks like a small box and is secured with clips, which you press to remove the cover.
3. As you remove it, be careful not to dirty the interior of the car. Place a bag right underneath the glove compartment to easily collect any dust that may fall.
4. Install the new filter, and you’re done!
Changing the cabin filter is a simple process that can improve the air quality in your car and keep the air conditioning system in good condition.
Remember to check it regularly and not neglect it, as it contributes to better well-being during driving and the long-term maintenance of the car.
