Cleaning Car Headlights: How to do it?

We are obligated, when choosing to be drivers of a vehicle, to adhere to the traffic rules.

An important aspect is ensuring proper visibility while driving by maintaining the condition of the headlights.

This is an easy process that can even be done at home.

Reasons why headlights may become cloudy.

The material they are made of is usually plastic, and it is logical that over time and with daily exposure to weather conditions, the plastic surface will deteriorate, causing it to become cloudy and yellowed.

Without proper maintenance, this can reduce the functionality of the lights.

What tools and materials are needed for cleaning?

In the market, you will find: a mild cleaner, preferably warm water, a soft brush or sponge, white vinegar to remove stains, and a soft cloth for drying.

Steps to follow for cleaning the headlights.

STEP 1:

Prefer a shaded area for washing. Start by removing the dust, and then use warm water and mild soap to begin washing the headlights.

STEP 2:

If the headlights are yellowed or cloudy, use white vinegar. It is a natural cleaner and helps with stubborn stains. It is recommended to apply it with a soft cloth to avoid scratches.

STEP 3:

In the market, you can find a polishing product specifically for headlights or generally for plastics. Apply it in circular motions across the entire surface.

STEP 4:

The final step. If you choose not to use a polishing product, simply wipe the surfaces of the headlights with your soft cloth. However, if you decide to apply the product, wait until it is completely dry.

How often should cleaning be done?

Every 6 months, check for any yellowing or cloudiness. If you notice that even after cleaning the issues persist, consult a specialist.
